Why that size for a Great Dane
The standard crate lengths stop at 48 inches, which fits up to about 110 pounds. A grown Great Dane typically weighs 110 to 175 pounds, so it needs a giant crate sized to the dog itself.
Once your Dane is grown, measure it: length from nose to base of tail plus 4 inches, and height sitting plus 4 inches. Those are the least inside length and height. Danes are tall, so height is often the number that decides.
For a puppy, a giant crate with a divider lets you buy once; set the divider to the puppy's length plus 4 inches.
The weight bands follow the crate chart PetMD publishes; the plus-4-inches rule is the one Chewy and crate maker MidWest give. Breed weights are typical adult ranges and vary from dog to dog. Sizes here are lengths; widths differ by brand.
