Small dog crate size
Small crates come in 18, 22 and 24 inches. The adult weight picks one.
A mix, or not on the list? Use Adult weight.
For a grown dog. Measure it standing, and sitting up.
For a puppy: the weight you expect it to reach as an adult. Not sure? Give a range.
The red pin marks the crate length on the tape, in inches.
Between 10 and 20 pounds the size could be 22 or 24 inches. Buy the 24-inch crate and use the divider; if your dog ends up near 10 pounds, 22 inches would have done.

Three small sizes
| Adult weight | Crate length | Dog length up to |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 6 lb | 18 in | 14 in |
| 7 to 12 lb | 22 in | 18 in |
| 13 to 25 lb | 24 in | 20 in |
18 inches suits a grown Chihuahua or toy poodle; 22 inches a Maltese, Yorkie or Papillon; 24 inches a Pug, Shih Tzu or Boston Terrier.
Small breeds vary a lot in length for their weight. A long-backed dog, a Dachshund for instance, can need the next size up: measure the grown dog from nose to base of tail and add 4 inches.
The weight bands follow the crate chart PetMD publishes; the plus-4-inches rule is the one Chewy and crate maker MidWest give. Breed weights are typical adult ranges and vary from dog to dog. Sizes here are lengths; widths differ by brand.
