The red pin marks the crate length on the tape, in inches.
Size my own dogA grown Beagle typically weighs 20 to 30 pounds. A smaller adult, near 20 pounds, fits a 24-inch crate; if you know your puppy's parents are on the small side, that's enough.
Measure your puppy, and the space to leave appears here.
Why 30 inches
Crates are sold by length. The size chart puts a dog that grows to 30 pounds in a 30-inch crate so the crate you buy for the puppy can already be the adult one, with the divider making it smaller for now.
Already have a grown Beagle? Measure it: length from nose to the base of the tail, plus 4 inches, is the crate length it needs. Height sitting, plus 4 inches, is the least crate height. If that comes out longer than 30 inches, go up a size.
