Size my own dog

A grown Golden Retriever typically weighs 55 to 75 pounds. A smaller adult, near 55 pounds, fits a 36-inch crate; if you know your puppy's parents are on the small side, that's enough.

Why 42 inches

Crates are sold by length. The size chart puts a dog that grows to 75 pounds in a 42-inch crate so the crate you buy for the puppy can already be the adult one, with the divider making it smaller for now.

Already have a grown Golden Retriever? Measure it: length from nose to the base of the tail, plus 4 inches, is the crate length it needs. Height sitting, plus 4 inches, is the least crate height. If that comes out longer than 42 inches, go up a size.
