Crate size calculator / Border Collie
What size crate for a Border Collie?
Buy a 36-inch crate for the grown dog.
The red pin marks the crate length on the tape, in inches.
Size my own dogA grown Border Collie typically weighs 30 to 55 pounds. A smaller adult, near 30 pounds, fits a 30-inch crate; if you know your puppy's parents are on the small side, that's enough.

Why 36 inches
Crates are sold by length. The size chart puts a dog that grows to 55 pounds in a 36-inch crate so the crate you buy for the puppy can already be the adult one, with the divider making it smaller for now.
Already have a grown Border Collie? Measure it: length from nose to the base of the tail, plus 4 inches, is the crate length it needs. Height sitting, plus 4 inches, is the least crate height. If that comes out longer than 36 inches, go up a size.
